A Hollywood production starring Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon and Mindy Kaling has been spotted filming in our very own Mackenzie Region this week.
The celebrities are in New Zealand filming Walt Disney Pictures’ A Wrinkle in Time, and have been sharing photos of their adventures since they arrived earlier in February.
Oprah shared the view from her accommodation overlooking Lake Pukaki.
The film stars teen actress Storm Reid in the lead role of Meg Murry. She celebrated the beauty of Aoraki Mount Cook, New Zealand’s tallest mountain, with a unique feat.
Storm also posted this photo from her Aoraki Mount Cook Village accommodation.
The grownups on the crew found time to play, too, in the pristine glacier-fed waters of Lake Pukaki.
Last, but certainly not least, from director Ava DuVernay, a beautiful message of thanks and recognition of the spiritual significance of this land and its heart, Aoraki.
This land is sacred. God smiles here. I feel blessed to tell a story about light conquering darkness in this exquisite place. Under the watchful eyes of the magnificent Maunga Aoraki. Kia ora to the Maori people, Tangata Whenua O Aotearoa. Eternally grateful to our exceptional New Zealand crew, especially my main man @StuntMaori. Big thanks to #MaoriTV for the love and @CanadaGoose for keeping me warm and fly. And respect to my favorite set photographer @Jimagraphy for capturing my happiness in this picture. Tena Koutou Katoa! Nga Mihi, Ava
We’re glad the cast and crew enjoyed working and playing in our beautiful backyard. Even in moody weather, this Lake Pukaki setting (near Glentanner) is stunning and we can’t wait to see it on the big screen.
