Pioneer Park

Pioneer Park

Located just a 20-minute drive from Fairlie, Pioneer Park is a wonderful hidden gem of the area. The park is a 390-hectare conservation area with a variety of native and exotic trees. Camp, picnic, walk, swim and explore – there is plenty to keep the entire family entertained, including a historic hut and two walking tracks. The name is in honour of the pioneer families who settled in the area, “to commemorate the courage and forbearance of the early settlers”.

Pioneer Park is an excellent place to bring the family for an overnight camping trip. During the day you can explore the rock art at nearby Raincliff Historic Reserve and cool off in the swimming holes at the Opihi River.

The easiest way to find this camp spot is to follow Gudex Road off SH79 (23km from Geraldine), then turn into Middle Valley Road. Turn into the iron gates to get to Pioneer Park.

Pioneer Park – just one reason why you should visit the Legendary Mackenzie!
