The Alps 2 Ocean Cycle Trail is a multi-day adventure starting from either Aoraki/Mount Cook or Lake Tekapo and finishing in Oamaru.

If you’re after a day trip we suggest the Lake Pūkaki to Twizel section. It’s an easy-grade 18km trail that’s suitable for all ages and abilities.

The trail follows the Lake Pūkaki foreshore with epic views of Aoraki/Mount Cook across the lake and plenty of spots to rest and admire the scenery along the way.

You’ll then cross the highway by the Mt Cook Alpine Salmon shop and traverse the Pūkaki Flats – a wide-open expanse of golden grasslands where you get the ‘big sky’ feeling of the Mackenzie, before finishing in the Twizel township.
