Located just a short drive from Twizel, Ōhau Snow Fields is technically in the Waitaki (the neighbouring region) however a great reason to come and stay in the Mackenzie Region. You’ll be up in the carpark unpacking the skis within an hour if you stay in Twizel.

The quintessential Kiwi skifield is known for its relaxed and family-friendly atmosphere and epic views which overlook the stunning Lake Ōhau and across to the Southern Alps and Aoraki/Mount Cook.

The field caters for all abilities with a beginners area near the café and viewing area, and great intermediate and advanced terrain on various groomed and off-piste runs. Advanced skiers will love the traversing and off-piste areas with jaw-dropping views of the Mackenzie Basin and beyond. The double chairlift services most of the riding terrain and the boutique field has a relaxed, friendly and uncrowded vibe compared to the Queenstown fields.

Before you head back to Twizel, pop into the iconic Ōhau Lodge located at the bottom of the field where you’ll meet the friendly owners and staff who’ll go out of their way to deliver great Kiwi hospitality.
