Raise your hand if you’re ready for an off-road farm experience like no other! Established by a long-standing local family, Lake Tekapo Farm Tours focuses on providing an authentic Kiwi experience in the heart of the Mackenzie Region.

Enjoy a maximum of 11 guests on their high country guided farm tour that takes you on an exciting adventure, across two amazing high country farms; the historic Mt John & Balmoral stations. Enjoy breathtaking views and epic landscapes (photographers delight!), with a variety of farmyard animals and the chance to explore remote areas on this vast 25,000-acre property located just outside of Tekapo, this is a 2-hour journey the entire family will love.

Starting at the Balmoral Farm Yard located next door to Peppers Bluewater Resort, buckle up and jump on board their Mercedes Sprinter tour bus and head out to your first location – the historic Mt John Station. Along the way spot the farm residents consisting of: 5,000 Merino sheep, 300 Red deer, 200 Angus cows, 30 horses, 25 alpaca and 15 working dogs!

Move on to the hidden gem that is Swan Tarn with the Southern Alps as its backdrop and the chance to see Aoraki/Mount Cook! While you’re there grab the binoculars out and try to spot the endangered Black Stilt bird nesting at the tarn. On the way to your next stop learn all about the forestry and the football-sized pine-cones that grow there.

Head to Forks Stream where you’ll drink fresh spring water straight from the source! While there you’ll learn all about the native flora & fauna. On the way to your next stop pass by the horse paddock & say hello to the famous horses who recently starred in the new Disney adaptation of Mulan.

Mt John lookout is possibly one of the most breathtaking stops on this epic journey! Enjoy your private location on this mountain where you will not only learn all about the lake that put Tekapo on the map but also get the chance to have some fun, get into the spirit and dress like a farmer . . . definite photo opportunity here!

Heading back to the office where your last stop will be to get up close and personal with some of the friendly farm animals.  With Martha the Merino sheep, Albert the alpaca & Whiskey the pig just to name a few. You provide the hands, we’ll provide the food, then let us take some memorable pictures for you with your new friends. Lastly, enjoy a stroll through the Balmoral Farm shop where you will be able to purchase clothing made from the farms Merino & alpaca wool. By the end of this tour, you will feel informed and educated and have a cache of stunning pictures & a plethora of fond memories.
